The Substance Awareness Center of Indian River County (SAC) is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to provide Indicated Prevention services. Re-Direct is designed to focus on the needs of the individual seeking to maximize opportunities for success. Services are designed and implemented to help each individual/family increase their skills and utilize their social and natural supports or build social support and natural supports.

SAC believes that all youth are capable of success. The program serves youth who have engaged in risky behavior most often identified and referred by law enforcement, the juvenile justice system, or the school district. The program is designed to reduce identified risk factors and strengthen protective factors.

Program Fees: There are no associated program fees.

Location: 1507 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. The program operates 4 days per week from the hours of 9:00 am – 7:30 pm. Individual sessions are scheduled during these hours or at the school during non-academic hours.

Services: Program services include an intake assessment that identifies needs and risks and addresses those in an appropriate manner and timeframe. The program consists of individual, group, family sessions, and case management with referral and linkage.

The counselor meets with the family to discuss strategies for improvement, identify family issues that impact successful outcomes, and make appropriate referrals to support ongoing success.

A 6-week parenting skills group is held, which parents can attend free of charge. Youths receive the LifeSkills Training curriculum and are encouraged to participate in a fitness /qi gong group to increase their protective factors.

Re-Direct is led by a clinical director and staffed with a licensed mental health counselor and a qualified supervisor who works with the youths and their families. Also, two certified Re-Direct facilitators can work with the kids individually or in small groups.

Re-Direct Program Goals:

  • Reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
  • Increase engagement in pro-social behavior.
  • Increase the practice of healthy coping and social skills.
  • Reduce delinquency.
