NARCAN

NARCAN Nasal Spray is a formulation of naloxone and is FDA approved for the treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. Designed for use in the community, NARCAN Nasal Spray is needle-free and ready to use. NARCAN Nasal Spray may counteract the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose. Since most accidental overdoses occur in a home setting, it was developed for first responders, as well as family, friends, and caregivers with no medical training required. NARCAN is lifesaving medication and in his report Facing Addiction in America, the Surgeon General called upon all Americans to carry naloxone/NARCAN to save lives. SAC offers free NARCAN to anyone in our community who is at risk of an overdose or witnessing an overdose. Please contact our office for your free NARCAN Nasal Spray kit.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in combination with a comprehensive counseling program, which is proven effective in the treatment of opioid use and alcohol use disorders. The medications are FDA approved and can help some people to sustain recovery. SAC partners with Treasure Coast Community Health to offer Medication Assisted Treatment at no cost to those without insurance and can even assist with high co-payments. We want to make sure these effective medications are available to all who may benefit. Medications include Vivitrol/Naltrexone for the treatment of alcohol or opiate use disorder; and Buprenorphine for the treatment of opiate use disorder. Methadone is also an FDA approved medication for the treatment of opiate use disorder but is only available through a licensed program; the closest program to Indian River County is the Central Florida Treatment Center. https://methadoneworks.net/. Please contact the SAC office for more information or to learn more about a free MAT education session.
