About The Substance Awareness Center

The Substance Awareness Center of IRC  was founded in 1989 as a resource for information and referral, and has expanded the services offered as the community need has increased. We have embraced two positions – Prevention Works! and Recovery Works!

Prevention Works! For over a decade the Substance Awareness Center has provided all public, middle school students a nationally recognized, evidence based, prevention curriculum. The Substance Awareness Center also offers a counseling program for adolescents and their families.

Recovery Works! The Substance Awareness Center now offers state licensed day treatment and outpatient substance abuse programs as well as a Recovery Assistance Program which consists of housing, counseling, drug testing, and recovery support services.

The Substance Awareness Center receives funding from grants, foundations and donations, and operates under the direction of a volunteer board of directors. General board meetings are held monthly.
