Why donate to the Substance Awareness Center?
Research shows that addiction is both preventable and treatable. At SAC, we follow the science and principles that have demonstrated prevention and recovery work. Together we can change lives!
- RECOVERY WORKS! 1 in 7 Americans will face a substance use disorder in their lifetime. Addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is attainable but only 10% of those who need treatment actually receive treatment for their substance use disorder. The Substance Awareness Center makes treatment accessible and obtainable to all who need it!
- PREVENTION WORKS! People who start drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to become addicted later in life than those who start at 20 or later. Our prevention programs target youth at the appropriate developmental time.
- RETURN ON INVESTMENT! Lives saved and families restored. Every dollar invested in school-based substance abuse prevention programs can save up to $18 in costs related to substance use disorders. Every dollar invested in addiction treatment programs yields a return of between $4 and $7 in reduced drug-related crime, criminal justice costs, and theft. When savings related to healthcare are included, total savings can exceed costs by a ratio of 12 to 1. - Addiction knows no boundaries; every community is affected by substance use, as is every family.
While donations tend to be monetary, we are also looking for a number of household contributions as well. These items will go toward furnishing the Recovery Support Program houses and will be put to very good use.
As always, we at the Substance Awareness Center deeply appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness.
