Community-Based Prevention

The Substance Awareness Center of Indian River County (SAC) is home to our community’s substance abuse prevention coalition: SAFIR  Substance Abuse Free Indian River. SAC is the lead agency and fiscal agent for our coalition; whose purpose is to develop, implement, and promote strategies to reduce substance misuse in Indian River County, with a focus on youth. Federal and state funding helps us bring community stakeholders together in an effort to bring about community-level change for substance misuse right here in Indian River County.

When all sectors of a community come together, social change happens. We believe that prevention of substance use and misuse is the most effective and cost-efficient way to reduce substance misuse and its associated costs. We recognize that our community is not immune to these problems, and we are motivated to face them together.
